Fay Buurman is a Dutch         Multidisciplinary Designer
currently studying Graphic Design at ArtEZ Arnhem.

With an interest in textiles, craft, and the             intersection of
  analog and digital processes.

Rooted in an admiration
for hands-on practices,
Fay’s work explores the unpredictable beauty of materiality, light, and sound, often integrating performative and experimental elements.

Fay’s projects question what is human, mundane,
or divine in the creative process.
Collaboration plays a central role, engaging
with other creatives and materials as equal partners
.

         * Ik vlecht je haren wel
                         2025 (work in progress)
In collaboration with Isis van Bolderen

A current research project on human hair as a material
within craft and fibre arts. This project intertwines research
into the structural, cultural, ecological and material properties
       of human hair.

Therefore it aims to challenge preconceived notions
of hair and instead admire the dissection of its many perspectives.
Crafts such as weaving and knitting are at the forefront
of this project as wel as traditional hair jewlery braiding.
Aided by historical reseacrh collaboration and a lot of curiosity.

                        * Spilling Guts
                                     2024

          Spilling Guts questions one
          of the most intimate
           and overlooked phenomena:
the sounds of the human body.

Through a choreography of cassette tapes,
mixers, and  rhythms of organs harmonizing.
          Are these echoes still human?
The interplay of body and machine
           seeks to unearth a duality:
          the organic and the artificial,
          the autonomous and the programmed.

Spilling Guts invites the listener to reconsider
what it means to inhabit a body,
          to be human,
                    and to create.

             * Een Ode aan het Lege Bordje
            2023

                 A visual collection of media,
                sourced from the Rijksmuseum archive,
                                                                          featuring plates.
Food is appriacted and aestheticized in it’s complete state,
but where does this appriciation go when the plates are empty?

Through zooming in on food scraps and
                              cutlery placement
and manually cutting out and reframing plates,
this collection shifts the focus from abundance to aftermath.

It challenges our aestheticized view of dining,
                highlighting what is usually overlooked:
remnants, traces, and quiet gestures of use.

            2024

Op Treden is a roughly 5-minute short film about the staircase.
It is written as an introspective essay and a love letter
about the structure of the staircase.

Raising the question why we feel the need to
                                                                  constantly move up,
as humankind is designed for the ground.
Alongside historical, cultural and personal anecdotes
this video dissects and disombodies the fimiliar structure
            of the staircase.

In this exhibition, guest curator Philipp Gufler explores the limitations of language–then and now–in expressing desire, and calls for intersectional solidarity.

Alongside original documents and letters by Ulrichs, which offer a glimpse into his era and the influence of his thinking, nine contemporary artists have been invited. Through their work, they reflect on themes of (gender)identity, language, and queer desire. Marking the 200th anniversary of Ulrichs’ birth, this exhibition connects past and present, showing how exchange across generations can be both hopeful and transformative.

               space Nestruimte Den Haag.

Every year, selected students of the Art Academy (KABK)
get the opportunity to create and exhibit work related to an overarching theme.

This year, the students were inspired by artist Ariadne Randall. During multiple workshops by Randall
The students were guided in bringing their ideas to fruition. The exhibition ran for a weekend with various performances
by the artists. Leave Your Body at the Door was curated by Maia Kenney and produced by Fay Buurman.

For their exhibition ‘De wonderen zijn de wereld niet uit’ (the miracles haven't left the world yet). The exhibition was held in the monastery in Huissen and lasted two weekends. For the exhibition 18 local artist and performers participated.

The design consisted of 300 riso printed flyers as well as big scale posters and a map of the exhibition.  Besides the design I have contributed with the organisation as well as spacial design of this exhibition.
